An Ado-Ekiti Magistrates’ Court on Friday sentenced a 35-year-old man, William Sunday, to three years imprisonment for breaking and entering in Ekiti.

The Chief Magistrate, Mr. A. T. Lawal, in his judgment, however, gave the convict an option of a fine of N50,000.

The convict, whose address was not stated, pleaded guilty to a count charge of breaking and entering, when the charge was read to him in Yoruba language.

Earlier, the Prosecutor, Mr O.S. Ojo, a government counsel, narrated the act of the convict to the satisfaction of the court.

He said the accused committed the offence on July 22, behind Delight Nursery and Primary School, Ado-Ekiti.

Ojo said that Sunday broke into the dwelling house of one Mrs Funmilayo Sogeye around 3.00 p.m. and carted away a 14-inch sharp television set, stabilizer and one leather box full of clothes, all valued at about N260, 000.

He said the offence contravened Section 412 of the Criminal Code Act, Cap C38, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004.

Ojo urged the court to convict the accused as charged, having confessed and pleaded guilty to the offence.
